Overview

Set in the rainy streets of Tokyo, Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation follows recent college grad Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), who’s left behind in her hotel room to kill time while her photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi) works on assignment with vapid celebrities she openly mocks. One night at the hotel bar, Charlotte chances upon another visiting American, Bob (Bill Murray), a movie star in town to make a quick promotional buck. An unlikely friendship is soon forged over their shared experiences of mid-youth/mid-life crises, Japanese customs and well-coiffed karaoke.

Why You Should See This Film

Shot in just 27 days, this film feels like a melancholy holiday abroad with a pair of enigmatic acquaintances. Some fifteen years after its initial release, Lost in Translation remains a certified modern classic and one of Sofia Coppola’s very best. Between the luminous cinematography of Lance Acord and a soundtrack featuring My Bloody Valentine, Air, and Phoenix, Coppola carves out a tenderly funny story with two brilliant leads. It’s also Bill Murray’s absolute favourite of his own performances. Who could disagree?

Presented by bassike

Deborah Sams & Mary Lou Ryan, established bassike together in 2006 with a vision to create luxurious and wearable everyday pieces with a design pedigree that allow them to work in a structured wardrobe just as well as with a pair of trainers.

This vision formed the framework for the very first bassike collection; a considered edit of certified organic cotton jersey t-shirts & pants made locally in australia. The collection received wide acclaim with the brand becoming one-to-watch both locally & globally. Today bassike has grown to become one of australia’s leading fashion brands with a digital flagship and a retail portfolio of ten bricks & mortar stores located across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria in Australia and California in the USA. bassike is also represented in over sixty independent retail locations around the world.

The bassike philosophy centres on high-quality design & construction with a commitment to sustainable manufacturing. bassike is proud to support local industry by producing their organic jersey & mainline collections locally in Australia.

Three lucky ticket-holders will win a pair of bassike denim jeans, beautifully handcrafted in Japan – to be announced on the night.
