Overview

Cary Grant and the enchanting Deborah Kerr star together in this classic about love’s power to transcend. Aboard a cruise ship from Europe to New York, Nickie (Grant) is a suave playboy who meets cute nightclub singer Terry (Kerr). With other partners on the scene their flirtations begin innocently enough but quickly deepen when Terry sees another side of Nickie at his grandmother’s home on the Mediterranean coast. To test their commitment to one another the couple agree to meet again in six months at the top of the Empire State building. Will they keep the promise?

Why You Should See This Film

Director Leo McCarey liked this story so much he made it into a film, twice! Scene-for-scene, An Affair to Remember is practically identical to McCarey’s earlier film Love Affair (1939). There are also references aplenty to the film in Nora Ephron’s Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and it ranked #5 on the AFI list of America’s greatest love stories.
