American Animals

(Rated MA15+)

"Are you in or are you out?"

Session Times

American Animals follows the unbelievable — but entirely true — story of four young men in 2004 and their attempt to execute one of the most audacious art heists in United States history. When Spencer (Barry Keoghan) and Warren (Evan Peters), two friends from the middle-class suburbs of Kentucky, realise that adult life is nowhere near as exciting as they’d once assumed, they become determined to leave a unique legacy. So begins their brazen, harebrained plan to steal some of the world’s most valuable art books from their college library.

★★★★★ "A triumph. Audacious stupidity and teeth-clenching thrills."
— The Guardian
"Wildly entertaining. This is unabashedly virtuoso, show-off filmmaking."
— Variety

Why You Should See This Film

Both irreverent and reference-laden, American Animals sees its gang of thieves take their nefarious cues from their favourite heist movies. Unfolding from multiple perspectives, and incorporating the real-life figures at the heart of the story, writer/director Bart Layton (The Imposter) takes the heist movie to thrilling new heights.
