Overview

Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton team up against their bigoted boss in this uproarious 1980 comedy, directed by Colin Higgins (writer of Harold and Maude). At Consolidated Companies, secretary Judy (Jane Fonda), office supervisor Violet (Lily Tomlin) and personal assistant Doralee (Dolly Parton) are sick to death of the constant sexist remarks, harassment and outrageous misogyny of their boss, Franklin Hart Jr. (Dabney Coleman). Over a few drinks, the women plot revenge, unleashing a wild chain of events that gives Hart a much-needed taste of his own medicine.

Why You Should See This Film

Ranked in the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Funniest Movies, 9 to 5 remains a side-splitting, deliciously vengeful delight. But with that cast, how could it be anything but? Fun fact: Dolly Parton came up with the Oscar-winning theme song on set after discovering that she could use her acrylic nails to mimic the sound of a typewriter.
