"I just want the future to be good"

Session Times

Award-winning director Damon Gameau (hit doco That Sugar Film) embarks on a personal journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet. Structured as an energetic and eye-popping visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary footage with dramatised sequences and high-end visual effects to create an optimistic (and surprisingly realistic) vision board for both his child and our planet.

Official Selection: Berlin International Film Festival
“A compelling blend of futuristic vision and current reality ... Let yourself be inspired”
— Christiana Figueres, Lead Negotiator of the Paris Climate Agreement
"It’s the kind of film that could make a startling difference if the people in power see it"
— Empire
"Entertaining and uplifting"
— The Hollywood Reporter

Why You Should See This Film

Featuring innovators and change makers in the areas of economics, technology, civil society, agriculture, education and sustainability, Gameau’s film combines wise expertise with accessible positivity, offering a motivational vision of what ‘could be’, instead of the dystopian future we are so often presented. Aimed at a broad audience that includes children and their parents, serious information is delivered with irreverence and humour. Experts are shrunk into scenes to emphasise a point, animation makes the invisible visible and visual effects show how scaling these solutions by 2040 will better our world.
